Skateboard wheels
Skateboard wheels are manufactured in a variety of sizes
to accommodate the various styles of riding that are popular today.
Larger sized wheels are great for riders who enjoy rolling faster and
wish to avoid common pitfalls, such a pavement cracks and gravel. Smaller
sized wheels keep the board closer to the ground and require less force
for acceleration.
Skateboard wheels are also available in a variety of hardnesses that
is measured on a durometer ‘A’ scale. Street skaters tend
to like harder wheels since soft ones absorb energy and slow a skater
down. Vert skating tends to enjoy larger wheels than street skating,
although they too need hard varieties to allow for continuous momentum.
Slalom skating requires the largest and softest wheels since they reach
high speeds and must be able to absorb wheel shocks that occur in turns.
Larger wheels are also common on longboards and downhill skateboarding
and allow for easy movement over a variety of terrains without the creation
of speed wobbles.
